Overview: Carved out of a dense, ancient pine forest near the Swedish border, Kongsvinger Golfklubb is widely considered Norway's ultimate woodland golf experience. Designed by Peter Nordwall, the course features wide, pristine fairways framed by towering pines, with large, undulating greens that are protected by artistic, sand-faced bunkers. The sandy subsoil provides exceptional natural drainage, allowing the course to play firm and fast, while the absolute silence of the forest provides a serene, peaceful escape.
History: Opened in 2005, Kongsvinger was built on an exceptional parcel of land near Lake Liermoen, which features deep sand deposits left by glacial activity. Architect Peter Nordwall utilized the natural sandy terrain to construct a layout that requires no artificial water hazards, relying entirely on the towering trees, strategic angles, and subtle slopes to defend par.
Did You Know? Despite its remote location in the deep forests of eastern Norway, the course consistently ranks among the top three layouts in the country and is a favorite among European golf purists who appreciate its natural, unspoiled design.
