Overview: Koʻolau Golf Club was a mountain course cut into the steep windward side of Oahu, with deep valleys, dense vegetation and the Koʻolau range surrounding the routing. At its published full length of about 7,310 yards and par 72, the course was known for forced carries, elevation changes and a setting very different from Honolulu’s coastal plain.
History: The course was associated with designer Dick Nugent, but Hawaii News Now reported that Koʻolau Golf Club closed permanently at the end of September 2020. This profile therefore describes a former course and does not present it as a currently playable facility.
Did You Know? Koʻolau’s mountain setting made the course unusually dependent on the natural ravines and ridgelines of the windward range. The same terrain that created its visual identity also made construction and maintenance more demanding than on Oahu’s lowland courses.
