Overview: Knoll West is a semi-private 18-hole Charles H. Banks course in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey. The club’s official course page lists par 70 and 6,752 yards from the blue tees, while the broader black-tee profile reaches 6,878 yards. Mature woodland, rolling ground, elevated putting surfaces and traditional bunker lines give the routing a classic northeastern character. Knoll West is separate from Knoll East, the neighboring 18-hole Hal Purdy course, so this profile focuses only on the Banks layout and its long-established design language.
History: Knoll West was established in 1929 on a 360-acre property conceived during the Roaring Twenties. Charles H. Banks designed the course, and the club says it has remained virtually unchanged despite minor alterations over the decades. Knoll East was added in 1961 under Hal Purdy, creating the two-course facility that exists today. West has retained its original identity while becoming semi-private, with limited non-member playing periods alongside a substantial member base and a busy tournament calendar.
Did You Know? Knoll’s two courses share one property but represent different architectural eras: Banks’s 1929 West course is a classic par-70 woodland test, while Purdy’s 1961 East course is a separate public-facing layout. The distinction is important when comparing course data or reading the club’s history.
