Overview: At Kingsbarns Golf Links, the links profile for Kingsbarns Golf Links is listed at 7224 yards and par 72. The routing uses the shoreline, rocky edges, broad dunes and firm running ground to create a modern links that still reads as part of the landscape. The holes are arranged in three sections rather than a simple out-and-back line, and the changes in direction bring the North Sea into the strategy from several angles. The directory's championship figure is 7,224 yards. Length is only one part of the test: the best lines often ask a player to decide how much coastline, wind or contour to take on before committing to the shot.
History: Construction of the current course began in 1997 and Kingsbarns opened for play in July 2000. Parsinen and Art Dunkley brought a new links development to ground with a much older golfing history, while Phillips provided a routing that combined traditional seaside features with contemporary scale and presentation. The course quickly became part of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship rotation from 2001 and later hosted the Women's British Open in 2017. Its rise was unusually quick, but the design was not built as a replica of St Andrews or Carnoustie; it established a separate identity through the way the fairways fold across the site and meet the sea.
Did You Know? The par-5 12th sweeps around the shoreline and can bring the beach into the approach, while the par-3 15th asks for a carry over rocks and sea. Those two holes show how Kingsbarns uses the coast as an active design element rather than a distant backdrop.
