Overview: Key West Golf Club is a public 18-hole Rees Jones and Keith Evans routing on Stock Island at the entrance to Key West. The current official course page lists 6,500 yards, while the Florida Historic Golf Trail identifies the course as par 70 with tees ranging from 5,000 to 6,500 yards. Mangrove-lined fairways, palms, lakes and multi-tiered greens create a tropical coastal test unlike any other in the Florida Keys.
History: The site's golf story began with a municipal nine-hole project in the 1920s. Nine more holes were added during the 1960s, and Rees Jones with co-designer Keith Evans completely redesigned the property in 1983 to create the current 18-hole course. Hurricane Wilma sent salt water across the property in 2005, after which the club rebuilt greens on all 18 holes during 2006 and 2007.
Did You Know? The par-three eighth, known as the Mangrove Hole, is played completely across a field of thickly intertwined tropical mangroves. It is the course's clearest example of the Florida Keys landscape becoming a direct part of the golf challenge.
