Kennemer Golf & Country Club - B (Pennink)

Overview: The Pennink B loop is part of Kennemer Golf & Country Club’s 27-hole dune complex at Zandvoort. Its sandy fairways, marram rough and exposed coastal wind give it the unmistakable character of a Dutch links setting, while the routing uses the natural contours of the dunes rather than imposing a formal grid. Frank Pennink added seven holes in 1985, working from Harry Colt’s earlier design ideas so the newer loop sits naturally beside the historic C and A nines. The result is a strategic, atmospheric test that rewards line, trajectory and imagination.

History: Kennemer was founded in 1910 and began with nine holes at Santpoort before moving to Zandvoort. The 1928 Colt course and clubhouse form the historic base of the present complex. The club endured wartime occupation and the destruction of many course features before reopening in 1948. The Pennink B loop was completed in 1985 as the third nine, creating the club’s present 27-hole arrangement alongside the Colt C and Van Hengel A loops.

Did You Know? The 1985 B loop was not treated as a separate modern insertion. Pennink based the seven added holes on a Colt design from 1937, and the club’s course guide says the final work was shaped to follow the original architectural language. That is why the B loop can read as part of one long dune-course story rather than a later annex.
