Overview: Keney Park Golf Course is a public 18-hole parkland layout in Hartford, Connecticut, extending into the Keney Park landscape near Windsor. The current directory lists par 70 and 6,449 yards. Devereux Emmet's first nine and Robert “Jack” Ross's later nine follow the park's natural grade, with changing sightlines, traditional green complexes and enough variety to make position more useful than a purely straight-ahead strategy. The course's municipal setting is part of its character: it is a historic city course surrounded by mature parkland rather than a private development carved from a blank site.
History: The first nine holes were designed by Devereux Emmet and built in 1927. Hartford city engineer Robert “Jack” Ross designed the second nine, which was added in 1931. After decades of use, the course closed in 2013 for a complete restoration overseen by Dusenberry Design. The restored course reopened in 2016 and soon hosted the Connecticut PGA Championship, the Hartford Women's Open and national junior PGA championships.
Did You Know? Keney's historic clubhouse was built during the Depression era, with bricks recycled from an old orphanage and stone from a demolished post office. The building and the golf course therefore share a direct connection to Hartford's public-works history.
