Overview: Kemper Lakes is a private course in Long Grove, Illinois, designed by Ken Killian and Dick Nugent across broad Midwestern parkland. The layout uses substantial fairway corridors, mature trees, shaped greens and water around the lake to create a demanding championship test. Its scale and bunkering reflect late-twentieth-century American course design while the wooded setting keeps the holes visually separate.
History: Kemper Lakes opened in 1979 as an upscale public course before becoming private. It hosted the PGA Championship in 1989, won by Payne Stewart, and later hosted the 2018 KPMG Women's PGA Championship after a period of renovation and renewed tournament use.
Did You Know? The 1989 PGA Championship produced four holes-in-one, tying a championship record at the time. Kemper Lakes's tournament history therefore includes both major competition and a rare concentration of aces in one week.
