Overview: Matang/Santubong is the southern 18-hole course at Kelab Golf Sarawak in Petra Jaya, Kuching. It combines the Matang and Santubong nines and is the older of the club's two 18-hole routings. Current Sarawak golf material lists a par-72 championship layout of 6,394 metres, approximately 6,992 yards, while the course's name comes from the Matang and Santubong mountain ranges visible from the area. Water hazards and preserved trees sit alongside a broad, traditional parkland framework.
History: Kelab Golf Sarawak began operating its first 18-hole course in the mid-1980s, with current tourism material dating the Matang/Santubong opening to 1985. Other industry references use 1983 for the opening and 1990 for an upgrade, so the profile uses 1985 as the directory routing date and records the uncertainty rather than presenting every historical date as identical. Nigel B. Douglas is associated with the later redevelopment and upgrading of the Matang and Santubong nines.
Did You Know? The third hole is described in Sarawak golf-travel material as an overwater par three, with a lake between the front of the green and bunkers protecting the narrow putting surface. It is a concise expression of the course's strategy: a relatively small target, water short and bunkers around it. The mountain names are also practical orientation points, linking the routing to the geography beyond the fairways.
