Overview: Keeton Park Golf Course is an 18-hole public championship course just outside downtown Dallas, built in the Trinity River Forest lakes on the site of an old pecan plantation. The City of Dallas credits David Bennett with the design and lists the course as opened in 1979. Current scorecard records show par 70 and 6,272 yards from the blue tees. Pecan-tree-lined fairways, water hazards and a secluded setting give Keeton Park more visual character than its urban location might suggest. The course is designed to reward accuracy, but the range of tee choices keeps the layout playable for both new golfers and lower-handicap players.
History: The land was acquired by the City in 1973 from the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce, and the course opened six years later. Keeton Park became part of Dallas’s long-running municipal golf programme, a system that has introduced generations of players to the game. Later improvements have included a renovated and enlarged grass driving range, a new putting and short-game area, greens work, fairway improvements and championship tee boxes. The course therefore combines a clear 1970s municipal origin with a continuing programme of practical upgrades.
Did You Know? Keeton Park was named an Audubon Sanctuary and has been recognised by Avid Golfer Magazine among the Dallas area’s notable courses. Its pecan plantation setting is not decorative background; the trees are one of the course’s defining strategic and visual features.
