Overview: The Oshima Course is Kawana Hotel’s older 18-hole seaside routing, set above the Izu coast with views towards the ocean and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The official course data gives par 70 and 5,711 yards. Its shorter scorecard does not make it a simple round: the course uses natural ground, changing coastal outlooks and a mixture of strategic par fours and long par fives to create its rhythm.
History: Oshima opened in 1928 and was designed by Komyo Otani, one of the foundational figures in Japanese golf architecture. The official Kawana history describes early construction over lava, with soil moved from Ito by boat and the course shaped largely by hand. The Right label is a green variant in the directory, not a separate physical routing, so the course history belongs to the Oshima Course as a whole.
Did You Know? The Oshima holes carry individual nicknames, many chosen with input from people connected to Kawana’s early history. The tradition gives the layout a human layer that complements its coastal landform, and helps explain why the course is remembered as more than a collection of yardage and par numbers.
