Overview: The Left green variant of Kawana’s Oshima Course belongs to an 18-hole seaside routing with a current par of 70 and 5,711 yards. The course follows the natural coastal ground above the Izu shore, with ocean views, mature planting and a sequence of holes that feels shaped by the land rather than imposed on it. Left and Right are catalog variants of the same Oshima routing.
History: Oshima opened in 1928 and was designed by Komyo Otani. Kawana’s official history records the early construction in detail: soil was moved from Ito by boat and spread over lava, with the course built through largely manual work. That origin gives the layout a direct connection to the physical making of early Japanese resort golf.
Did You Know? Oshima’s hole nicknames were created through conversations involving people connected to Kawana’s early history, including Otani. They are a piece of living course folklore, and they make the routing unusually easy to remember even when the published yardage is modest beside the Fuji Course.
