Overview: Kawana’s Fuji Course is an 18-hole seaside championship routing with views over the Sagami Sea and, in clear weather, Mount Fuji. The current Kawana data lists par 72 and 6,701 yards from the back tees. Its fairways follow the natural coastal ground, but the real architectural signature is the combination of deep bunkers, angled greens and approaches that demand a clear decision before the shot is played.
History: Fuji opened in 1936 alongside the Kawana Hotel and was designed by C.H. Alison. The official history explains that Rokuro Akaboshi had begun the work before Alison was asked to advise, after which the layout was substantially changed and completed as the Fuji Course. The Right label is a green variant in this directory, not a second 18-hole routing.
Did You Know? The deep hazards associated with the course are known as “Alison bunkers”. Their influence is not only visual: the depth and placement change the safest approach line and make a missed green a genuine architectural penalty. Fuji’s tournament history grew from those same demanding features.
