Overview: The Lakes Course at Katameya Dunes is an 18-hole, par-72 desert-style routing in New Cairo and the Lakes A and B combination within the resort's 27-hole site. The current operator information lists 7,435 yards and five tee positions. Sir Nick Faldo's design uses rolling fairways, raised greens, broad sand areas, palms and lakes to create a course where the line between landscape and hazard is deliberately close. Although the resort offers other nine-hole combinations, this profile is limited to the Lakes routing and its own 18-hole scorecard. The course's main interest comes from how water, elevation and sand alter the safe line into each green.
History: Faldo Design was selected in early 2006 to create Katameya Dunes as a 27-hole desert-oasis project on the outskirts of Cairo. The Lakes Course is one of the resort's two named 18-hole combinations, alongside the Palms Course, and the Lakes routing is recorded as opened in 2010. The design team is described in current course references as Nick Faldo with Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt, while the operator presents Faldo as the lead designer. That distinction matters because the resort's three nines can be combined in different ways, but the directory record here is specifically the Lakes course.
Did You Know? Katameya Dunes was Faldo Design's first project in Egypt and its first in North Africa. On the Lakes routing, the resort's named water features are not simply background scenery: the official fact sheet describes risk-and-reward par threes that send shots over water or beside waterfalls. The result is a course identity built around decisions at the edge of the lakes rather than a generic desert presentation.
