Overview: Kaskáda Golf Resort near Brno is a 27-hole facility built around three nines known as Wooden, Stone and Iron. The Wooden and Stone combination forms the ranked 18-hole routing, with gently undulating greens, mature oak woodland, lakes and strategically placed bunkers shaping the round. Jonathan Gaunt designed the resort to work with the natural valley, so the three nines can be combined without losing their separate personalities or the sense of moving through a changing Moravian landscape.
History: Kaskáda was developed as a major sports and leisure project with partial support from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and the European Union. British project manager Chris Johnson supervised construction, and all facilities opened for play in 2007. The resort was conceived as more than an 18-hole course, with a six-hole academy layout, a 300-metre practice range and three nines that could support several different rounds.
Did You Know? Wooden and Stone were voted the Czech Republic’s Best Golf Course in the 2016 World Golf Awards. The resort’s name refers to the cascading arrangement of the holes through the valley, while the third Iron nine gives the complex a different visual and strategic rhythm from the ranked combination.
