Overview: Karnataka Golf Association's course is an 18-hole parkland-style layout on roughly 125 acres at Challaghatta in Bengaluru. The current course page lists 7,219 yards from the longest tees and par 72. It is generally level but deliberately contoured, with hybrid-Bermuda fairways, Bermuda greens, numerous water bodies and a large bunker count creating a more strategic test than the flat terrain first suggests. The course sits close to the airport and Bengaluru's central business districts, making it one of the city's most practical full-length rounds for visiting golfers as well as a major home for Indian tournament golf.
History: KGA was established in 1973, and the state provided land at Challaghatta for an international-standard course in 1980. Thomson Wolveridge Associates of Australia were appointed to design the layout. An initial nine-hole phase supported a SAARC conference, followed by the remaining holes before the full 18-hole course was put into play on 28 May 1989. A later drainage and redesign programme improved the course's playing and maintenance conditions without erasing its original identity. The association has continued to invest in irrigation, practice facilities and course infrastructure as KGA developed into a major Bengaluru golf destination.
Did You Know? Nine of KGA's holes are floodlit, and the association describes the driving range as floodlit as well. That allows the club to extend practice and selected golf beyond daylight, a useful feature in a busy city where heat, traffic and working hours can otherwise make a full round difficult to schedule. The course also grew from a disused tank-bed landscape that still contains numerous water bodies.
