Overview: Mount Kidd is one of the two 18-hole layouts at Kananaskis Country Golf Course in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course in a valley setting surrounded by high peaks, forest and the Kananaskis River. It is a par-72 mountain course whose identity comes from the relationship between broad valley-floor holes and the limestone walls beyond them. The directory routing is kept separate from Mount Lorette, because the two courses share a facility but not the same sequence of holes.
History: Mount Lorette was the first of the two courses to be designed and opened in 1983, with Mount Kidd following as the companion routing in the same 36-hole development. Both courses were badly affected by the 2013 flood and later restored before reopening. That restoration is part of the current course story, but the original Robert Trent Jones Sr. design remains the architectural foundation. A single current championship yardage was not published consistently in the reviewed official material, so it is left blank.
Did You Know? The two course names come from the mountains visible from the first tees: Mount Lorette to the north and Mount Kidd to the west. The setting is therefore built into the routing’s identity. At nearly 5,000 feet, the elevation also changes how far the ball travels, while the river and mountain views keep the course grounded in the Kananaskis valley.
