Overview: Located along the Kalajoki River in Nivala, Finland, Kalajokilaakson Golf is an 18-hole parkland course designed by Finnish architect Pekka Sivula. The layout features flat, wide fairways bordered by mature forests of pine and birch, leading to large green complexes. The course demands accurate ball placement off the tee and disciplined iron play to navigate the winding river corridors and lateral water hazards.
History: Opened in 2002 to bring premier golf to Northern Ostrobothnia, the course was built on a sandy, coastal parcel that ensures exceptional natural drainage. Sivula carefully routed the 18 holes to utilize the natural river contours, creating a highly playable yet strategic championship layout.
Did You Know? Due to its high latitude near the Arctic Circle, during the peak of summer the course enjoys 24-hour daylight. This solar exposure allows golfers to play a full round in the middle of the night under the midnight sun.
