Overview: The Royal Course at Kāʻanapali begins near sea level and climbs toward the foothills of West Maui, giving the 6,700-yard par-71 layout a clear change of scale across the round. Robert Trent Jones Sr. used broad fairways, wind and elevation to connect ocean views with the inland slopes. The closing stretch returns toward the resort and coast.
History: Royal Kāʻanapali opened in 1962 under Robert Trent Jones Sr. The Kāʻanapali property later hosted events including the Kāʻanapali Classic, World Cup and LPGA competition, making the course part of a long tournament history on Maui.
Did You Know? The first hole starts at sea level with a long par five, while the eighteenth returns through a canal-side setting. Those two holes bookend the course’s central design idea, moving from coast to foothill and back again.
