Overview: Jurmala Golf Club’s 18-hole Jurmala Course lies between Riga and the seaside resort of Jūrmala on a 75-hectare property. The current white-tee card measures 6,384 metres, approximately 6,982 yards, at par 72. Nicklaus Design shaped the course with broad movement across gentle ground, bold bunkering, natural water features and tall fescue framing several holes. The result is a modern Baltic layout whose strategy comes from choosing safe lines through the larger landscape before negotiating its more demanding greenside hazards.
History: The course was developed on the former Saliena Golf Club site, where the earlier Saliena layouts were established in 2007. After almost five years of intensive work, the redesigned and rebuilt Jurmala course opened in late 2018. Nicklaus Design led the transformation, with Dirk Bouts serving as a senior design associate on the project. The reopening gave the Riga area a new championship course while retaining the site’s place in Latvia’s short but rapidly developing golf history.
Did You Know? The property contains more than the main 18-hole layout: its golf complex also includes a nine-hole, par-three Academy Course. The present course occupies 75 hectares, while the earlier Saliena routing was designed by Pekka Wesaama. That combination of a rebuilt championship course and a separate short layout makes the site unusually broad in scope for a Latvian golf facility.
