Overview: The Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates is one of the most famous and difficult championship venues in world golf, specifically designed by Greg Norman to host the DP World Tour Championship. Opened in 2009, this parkland-inspired "big course" is characterized by its rolling fairways, brilliant white crushed-marble bunkers, and a technical finish that is widely considered the most dramatic on the European Tour. The layout demands immense power off the tee but requires delicate finesse on its massive, undulating greens, often deciding the season-long "Race to Dubai" on its final holes.
History: The development of Jumeirah Golf Estates was a major expansion of Dubai's luxury real estate and sporting infrastructure, and the Earth Course was designed to be its central crown jewel. Norman and his team spent years meticulously shaping the terrain to preserve the natural desert topography while creating a layout that felt both grand and sustainable. Since its opening, it has quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional maintenance and its role as a premier tournament venue, offering a refined and high-quality resort experience within a peaceful desert setting.
Did You Know? The 18th hole is one of the most photographed in the Middle East, featuring a winding creek that splits the fairway and a spectacular waterfall behind the final green. The course was inspired by the great parkland courses of North America and Europe, and more than 3,500 trees and shrubs were planted during construction to create a lush, shaded environment that contrasts sharply with the surrounding desert.
