Overview: Joondalup’s Quarry/Lake routing begins with the dramatic Quarry nine and finishes on the Lake nine. The official black-tee card lists 6,357 metres, or about 6,945 yards, at par 72. Limestone faces, steep ground and exposed bunkers make the Quarry opening visually theatrical; the Lake finish changes the emphasis to water, wind and more open approaches. The two nines create a memorable Perth golf round because the scenery and shot requirements change several times before the clubhouse comes back into view.
History: Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Joondalup’s three nines. The Quarry nine was the first to open, in 1985, while the Lake nine opened in 1990. The resort now offers three different 18-hole combinations from Quarry, Lake and Dune, and Quarry/Lake is one of those current routings. It should not be confused with a separate 18-hole course outside the Joondalup facility.
Did You Know? The Quarry nine was the first part of Joondalup to open, and the official history records 27 golfers playing it at the 1985 opening. On Quarry/Lake, that early nine is followed by the later Lake section, so one round carries the story of the resort’s expansion in its sequence of holes.
