Overview: Joondalup’s Dune/Lake routing combines two of the resort’s three nines into an 18-hole, par-72 round. The current black-tee combination is listed at 6,265 metres, or about 6,859 yards, and moves across dense bushland, sand dunes, rocky ground and picturesque lakes north of Perth. The Dune nine supplies exposed, windswept holes, while the Lake section adds water and long views. Together they create the dramatic contrast that has made Joondalup one of Western Australia’s most recognisable visitor golf destinations.
History: Joondalup was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Quarry nine opened with the club in 1985, and the Lake nine opened in 1990; the present facility now operates as three nines,Quarry, Lake and Dune, that can be combined in different ways. Dune/Lake is therefore a current 18-hole combination within a larger 27-hole resort, not a separate standalone course.
Did You Know? Joondalup is named for a place of shining waters, and the Lake nine makes that idea visible through the round. Yet the most memorable contrast may be geological: the same 18 holes can move from bushland and water to limestone outcrops and dune-like ground without leaving the resort.
