Overview: Joint Services Golf Club at Dhekelia is an 18-hole course inside Dhekelia Station in the Eastern Sovereign Base Area. Current Cyprus Golf Federation material lists 5,587 yards from men's yellow tees and 5,010 yards from ladies' red and men's forward tees. The course occupies hilly ground with wadis, tree-lined valleys and views over Larnaca Bay. The federation says it is not open to the general public; its normal community is the SBA service and MOD community, with limited non-entitled membership by permission. That controlled setting and the use of artificial putting surfaces distinguish it from Cyprus's commercial resort courses.
History: The club's published history dates the first course work to 1964, when Major Franks and engineers cut through the hills and wadis to make a playable facility. The early course used elevated mat tees and oil-and-sand browns, with eucalyptus, conifers, olives and carobs shaping the holes. During the 1970s, Ross Clunis helped improve water and grass provision, and the history records fairway work reaching a significant stage in 1978. The federation's course note records artificial-grass putting surfaces and irrigation/seeding work completed in 2016. The sources do not give a separate opening year for the current 18-hole routing.
Did You Know? The fourteenth hole is known as “Clunis Creation,” a permanent reference to Ross Clunis and his role in the course's development. That name sits alongside the club's older vocabulary of “browns” for putting surfaces, a reminder that this layout evolved from practical service-golf conditions rather than being built as a conventional commercial resort.
