Overview: Located in San Isidro, a northern suburb of Buenos Aires, the Cancha Colorada is a celebrated parkland layout designed by Alister MacKenzie. Winding through the parklands of the club's expansive estate, the course features wide, tree-lined fairways and MacKenzie's trademark undulating greens. The flat landscape is transformed by strategic bunkering and subtle mounds, requiring golfers to carefully plan their approach angles to avoid challenging recovery shots from short-grass runoff areas.
History: Opened in 1930, the course was part of a major design commission by the Jockey Club, which hired MacKenzie during his visit to South America. Under the local supervision of engineer Luther Koontz, the routing was meticulously built alongside its sister course, the Azul. Over the decades, it has hosted numerous editions of the Argentine Open and hosted international tournaments like the World Cup of Golf.
Did You Know? The finishing hole at the Cancha Colorada features an undulating green with a deep depression in front, drawing direct inspiration from the famous Valley of Sin on the 18th hole of the Old Course at St Andrews.
