Overview: The Cancha Azul is the second 18-hole course at the Jockey Club in San Isidro, Buenos Aires. Also designed by Alister MacKenzie, it features a slightly shorter, more compact routing than its sister course, the Colorada. Winding through mature parkland, the course requires precise iron play to navigate smaller green complexes and strategic bunkering that protects the preferred scoring paths.
History: Opened in 1930 alongside the Cancha Colorada, the Cancha Azul was constructed during MacKenzie's brief residency in Argentina. While the Colorada was designed for longer, tournament-style play, the Azul was envisioned as a more strategic, precision-based test. Luther Koontz assisted in the construction, ensuring the green contours matched MacKenzie's signature style.
Did You Know? The names of the two courses, Colorada and Azul, originated from the colored ribbons used by the survey crews to distinguish the stakes for each routing during the initial clearing of the land.
