Overview: Jay Peak Resort’s 18-hole course occupies a large, wooded property in northern Vermont where the fairways climb and fall through the terrain around the ski mountain. Graham Cooke’s design uses natural waterways, forest edges and changing ground to make the course more than a scenic resort amenity. Forced carries and uneven lies appear alongside broader landing areas, so the layout asks players to balance ambition with a clear understanding of the next shot. The 6,908-yard, par-72 course has a distinct mountain identity without becoming a collection of disconnected elevation changes.
History: The championship course was established in 2006 after more than 15 years of planning. It was built across roughly 300 acres by Cooke, with the front nine opening to the public on July 1, 2006. The project extended Jay Peak’s story beyond winter sport and helped establish the resort as a four-season destination. Its golf design was developed around the terrain, natural water and northern Vermont woods rather than an imported resort template.
Did You Know? Jay Peak’s course records list 13 holes with water hazards across the 18-hole routing and a course record of 66 by Bryan Smith. The property covers about 175 acres within the larger resort setting, a useful reminder that the mountain scenery is supported by a carefully managed golf landscape.
