Overview: Jax Beach Golf Club is a city-owned 18-hole coastal course at 605 Penman Road in Jacksonville Beach. The current USGA rating record reaches 6,668 yards at par 71, while the barrier-island setting brings sandy ground, sea breezes and a naturally open sense of movement into the round. Harrison Minchew's redesign kept the course playable while reshaping the closing stretch and reducing unnecessary forced carries.
History: The facility began as a private nine-hole course and grew to 18 holes after the City of Jacksonville Beach acquired it. Historical course records date the original course to 1957, credit Sam Snead with the design and Bob Walker with a 1987 redesign. Minchew's extensive renovation began in January 2018, renewing drainage and irrigation, reshaping holes and reworking the 16th, 17th and 18th greens.
Did You Know? Minchew's hole notes describe the course as a place for ground-oriented seaside golf, using closely mown areas around the greens, sandy soil and the prevailing sea breeze to encourage bump-and-run options. The result is a coastal playing character that depends as much on wind and ground game as on aerial carries.
