Overview: Isla Del Sol is an 18-hole Mark Mahannah course on the island setting of Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg. The current club page lists a par-71 layout measuring 6,392 yards from the longest tees, with water, bridges and coastal views shaping the round. Its position near the Gulf beaches gives the course a distinctly maritime Florida identity.
History: The course opened in 1977 as the golf centerpiece of the Isla Del Sol development, created through dredging and land formation in Boca Ciega Bay. Mark Mahannah's design has been updated over time, including a major 2018 renovation reported to have refreshed bunkers, greens and tees. Older turf-management records publish a 1997 opening date and a shorter yardage, so the current club's 1977 and 6,392-yard figures are used here with the discrepancy retained.
Did You Know? The course is built on an island landscape formed from dredged bay material, and the club's turf records count 23 waterways, lakes and ponds across the property. That engineering and water setting are central to Isla Del Sol's character rather than incidental scenery.
