Overview: Iron Horse Golf Club is a private Tom Fazio course in Whitefish, Montana, set between the Rocky Mountain forest and the broad horizons of Whitefish Lake. The 18-hole layout combines bluegrass fairways, bentgrass greens, wooded corridors and views toward the lake and Montana Rockies. Its playing character is a mix of risk-and-reward options and mountain-site strategy: players must decide when to challenge an angle and when to use the wider part of a hole. Five teeing grounds per hole help the course offer different levels of challenge without losing its championship identity.
History: The entire 18-hole golf course was completed during the summer of 2000, followed by the clubhouse in 2001 and the remaining club facilities in 2002. Iron Horse has since undergone later expansion and refurbishment, but the Fazio routing remains the centrepiece of the Whitefish property. The club's own course tour describes the layout as a distinctive Western design, with the golf holes winding through forest and opening toward the lake and mountain views.
Did You Know? Iron Horse's official course description notes that the setting supports deer, elk and moose, with the animals often more visible than houses or other players. That is an unusually direct reminder that this private golf community remains embedded in the wider Whitefish landscape.
