Overview: Inverness Club, located in Toledo, Ohio, is a legendary, historic parkland championship course designed by Donald Ross. Set across rolling, tree-lined hills, the course is highly celebrated for its classic routing, demanding doglegs, and its complex, contoured greens that are protected by deep, strategically placed bunkers. It stands as a true monument of American golf, having hosted six major championships and a Solheim Cup, maintaining an uncompromising standard of conditioning and competitive excellence.
History: Opened in 1903, the course was significantly redesigned by Donald Ross in 1916, who turned it into a premier championship venue. In 2018, architect Andrew Green completed a highly acclaimed restoration of Inverness, removing hundreds of trees, expanding Ross's green complexes back to their historic dimensions, and incorporating three new holes utilizing Ross's original design notes. This restoration successfully returned the course to its golden-age glory, presenting a brawny, strategic test.
Did You Know? Inverness was the first club in America to break traditional class barriers by opening its clubhouse doors to professional golfers during the 1920 U.S. Open. Before this, pros were treated as "hired help" and not allowed inside; in gratitude, Walter Hagen organized a collection among the players to present the club with a beautiful grandfather clock that still stands in the lobby.
