Overview: Interlachen Country Club is an 18-hole private course in Winter Park, originally designed by Joe Lee and later redesigned by Steve Smyers. The current black-tee reference reaches 7,213 yards at par 72, with large lakes, manicured fairways and greens, and strategically placed bunkers shaping the course's character. The result is a substantial Central Florida test built on heavily contoured reclaimed ground.
History: The club was founded in 1983 on 270 acres assembled from several land holdings, and Joe Lee was contracted to design the course. More than 1.5 million cubic yards of earth were moved to create the lake-and-contour setting, and the inaugural round was played on November 23, 1985. Steve Smyers led a major redesign in 2007, linking the present course to both its Lee origins and its later architectural refinement.
Did You Know? Interlachen's lakes are part of the course's physical origin story rather than just scenery: the club says the planned water bodies supplied the extra fill used to shape the property. That earthwork is why the Winter Park course has more elevation and contour than its flat regional setting might suggest.
