Overview: Indian River Colony Club is an 18-hole, par-72 Gordon G. Lewis course in Melbourne, where the routing moves among residential streets, ponds and natural preserves. The blue-tee reference measures 6,134 yards, while seven tee positions give the layout a broad range of playing angles. Water carries, elevation changes and undulating greens provide the principal tests within the compact community setting.
History: The Colony Club community began in 1986 on a 453-acre site, and the golf course followed as the neighborhood took shape. Current course records give 1989 as its opening year and credit Lewis with the design. The club's own account also records a greens re-grassing project in 2009, part of the continuing care of the original layout.
Did You Know? The official hole guide notes that water comes into play with carries of up to 160 yards on roughly one third of the holes. The same guide describes wildlife moving through the preserves, so the course's character comes from its combination of golf holes, ponds and habitat rather than from a purely manicured parkland corridor.
