Overview: Independence’s 18-hole Championship Course in Midlothian is the main layout at a 27-hole public golf facility near Richmond. Tom Fazio’s routing crosses rolling Virginia ground with tree-lined corridors, water hazards and varied approach angles. The course’s broad movement between holes gives it a championship feel while the multiple tee positions keep the line of play adjustable.
History: The facility was founded in 2001. The Virginia State Golf Association identifies Tom Fazio as the original architect and Lester George as the architect behind a 2014 renovation, so the current course should be read as a Fazio design with later work rather than as an untouched original.
Did You Know? Independence is home to the Virginia State Golf Association. Its 27 holes allow the club to present the ranked Championship Course as a defined 18-hole routing while retaining additional golf on the same property.
