Overview: Located near Taormina, Sicily, Italy, Il Picciolo Golf Club is an incredibly spectacular 18-hole alpine resort layout originally designed by Luigi Rota Caremoli. Set directly on the massive foothills of Mount Etna, the layout features extreme elevation changes, tight fairways bordered by massive hazelnut and olive groves, and small, severely sloped putting surfaces. The course demands extreme precision to navigate the steep, rocky volcanic terrain.
History: Opened in 1989, the course was the first 18-hole golf facility built on the island of Sicily. The layout was carefully routed through the incredibly massive, ancient lava flows that define the historic, rugged landscape of the active volcano.
Did You Know? The course is built entirely on the massive slopes of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Several holes are routed directly over and around incredibly massive, ancient flows of solid black volcanic rock, providing a highly rugged, dramatic architectural backdrop.
