Overview: South of Chicago in Flossmoor, Idlewild Country Club offers a traditional 18-hole parkland round built around tree-lined fairways, water and varied par values. The long-established setting is central to the character of this private club.
History: Idlewild was founded in 1908 when Fred Newman and a group of Chicago-area golfers engaged Al Naylor to lay out the course and oversee its early operation. The club celebrated its centennial in 2008 and has continued to invest in the course, including a modern irrigation project.
Did You Know? Idlewild’s early founders included Julius Rosenwald and other prominent Chicago businessmen. The club’s origins are tied to Flossmoor’s early twentieth-century railroad-suburb golf culture.
