Overview: Hyderabad Golf Course is an 18-hole public course built in and around the Golconda Fort and Naya Qila heritage precinct in Hyderabad. The current club describes a par-70 layout of approximately 6,100 yards, with fairways, water bodies, rock and historic fort features sharing the same setting. Fourteen holes lie within the Naya Qila ramparts, while part of the clubhouse and course occupy reclaimed land outside them. That unusual relationship gives the course a character found almost nowhere else: a round here is also a close encounter with Hyderabad's Deccan history.
History: The course grew from an initiative of the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation, which licensed land to the Hyderabad Golf Association to create an international-standard public facility. James Edwards of Edwards Design International was the project architect, and later work led by Nandan Heblikar added holes and changes within a wider masterplan. Because the course developed in stages around a protected heritage landscape, it is better described as an evolving project than assigned a single opening year. The present profile therefore records the current 18-hole identity and design team while leaving the opening date unclaimed.
Did You Know? Hyderabad Golf Club irrigates the course with treated wastewater through a root-zone bio-remediation system. The sustainability measure is part of the club's official description, alongside its conservation of archaeological features. Golfers can therefore see an unusual pairing during a single round: modern water-management infrastructure supporting green playing surfaces beside the walls and landforms of a nationally protected fort complex.
