Overview: Huddle Park’s Championship Blue Course is an 18-hole public parkland layout in eastern Johannesburg. It is part of a much larger golf property, but the Blue Course has its own identity through broad fairways, mature trees and the open Highveld ground around the club. The current course is listed at par 72 and about 6,706 metres from the yellow tees. It offers the kind of full, varied round that works for both local golfers and visitors building a Johannesburg itinerary.
History: The original Huddle Park complex grew from Bob Grimsdell’s work between 1948 and the late 1950s and eventually included 54 holes. The Blue Course later passed through a period of decline before being restored and reopened in November 2013. David Bagg and Gordon Brews are associated with the rehabilitation work. That history matters because the present course is a revival of an important Johannesburg golf property, not a completely new estate course.
Did You Know? Huddle Park hosted South Africa’s first multiracial tournament on the Blue Course in 1971, with Tienie Britz winning. The fact connects the course to the country’s social and sporting history and gives the Blue Course significance beyond its fairways, greens and restored layout.
