Overview: Hubbelrath's East Course is an 18-hole parkland championship layout on the high ground east of Düsseldorf, in the foothills of the Bergisches Land. The club places the site at about 165 metres above sea level and describes it as the highest point in Düsseldorf, with wide views across the Rhineland. The course profile is par 72 and 6,810 yards. Its character comes from the combination of elevation, tree-lined fairways and the strategic use of trees as obstacles. Bernhard von Limburger's design favours demanding lines into relatively small, difficult greens, so the East Course asks for more than length from the tee. The rolling setting, changing outlooks and tournament history give the course a strong championship identity while keeping the natural landscape central to the round.
History: Golf Club Hubbelrath was founded on 27 November 1961 and registered the following month. The first 18 holes, the East Course, opened with the clubhouse on 13 September 1964. A separate second 18 holes, the West Course, followed on 20 May 1972. Bernhard von Limburger was the golf architect for both courses, and the club's own history places Hubbelrath among his important layouts. The East Course was later refined through further work, including bunker revisions by Howard Swan and broader landscape and parkland improvements. It became a prominent competition venue and has continued to host national and international events.
Did You Know? The East Course's seventh hole was selected by golf specialists in 2000 as Germany's best par three for its combination of landscape beauty and technical difficulty. The East Course has also staged German Open golf, with players such as Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh and Ian Woosnam appearing in its history.
