Overview: Apple Rock is the most openly scenic of Horseshoe Bay Resort’s three Robert Trent Jones, Sr. courses, climbing through the Texas Hill Country before bringing the back nine toward Lake LBJ. From the championship tees it plays 6,999 yards at par 72, but the defining challenge is not length alone. The resort highlights dramatic elevation changes, more than fifty bunkers and water in play on seven holes. The ground rarely stays flat for long, so the best strategy is to choose a landing area that leaves a balanced lie and a clear angle into the next green. The lake views can be generous, but they also make distance and wind judgment feel consequential.
History: Apple Rock is part of the resort’s “Texas Triangle,” the group of three 18-hole courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. at Horseshoe Bay. That shared authorship gives the facility a coherent architectural identity, while Apple Rock has its own progression from rocky upper ground to the lakeside finish. The current resort presentation preserves the course as a championship resort routing rather than a generic Hill Country layout, with a dedicated scorecard, hole descriptions and visitor experience around the golf itself.
Did You Know? Apple Rock’s 11th hole asks for a tee shot over or around water toward a green protected short and left, while the resort describes the course as one of the three Texas Triangle layouts. It is therefore possible to build a full Horseshoe Bay trip around three distinct Jones courses without leaving the same resort area. The course’s mix of exposed ridge, live-oak country and Lake LBJ shoreline is what makes the routing feel varied even before the score is added up.
