Overview: Hooge Graven Golfclub Ommen sits in the Overijssel countryside, winding through dense pine forests and natural sand drifts. Designed by Joan Dudok van Heel, this public course opened in 1993 with a focus on firm playing conditions. The greens are famously fast and true, offering a pure golf experience where local wildlife is the only distraction. Visitors can play 18 holes or utilize the separate Par 3 course for practice rounds.
History: The club was founded in 1987 and grew to over 1200 members before its official opening on September 25, 1993. Architects Eschauzier and Tate designed the original layout, which included a nine-hole course and driving range facilities. In 2002, the facility expanded with another nine holes to create the current championship routing. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven officially opened the club during its inaugural year.
Did You Know? The course is located in the Vechtdal region, which is historically famous for its unique sand-drift geology. This natural sandy base ensures the course drains perfectly and stays firm even in wettest conditions. The terrain provides a distinct challenge compared to typical grass-heavy courses found elsewhere in Europe.
