Overview: Skovbanen at Holstebro Golfklub is an 18-hole woodland course in Råsted near Vemb, western Denmark. The layout is closely integrated with the forest, and the club describes the course as a place where the holes sit apart from one another among trees. That separation gives the round a quiet rhythm, but it also places a premium on accuracy from the tee. The current course plays to par 72 and combines narrow tree-framed corridors with natural ground and changing angles into the greens.
History: Holstebro Golfklub was founded in 1970, when the first nine holes were prepared and played. Erik Schnack investigated the land and drew the holes without payment, later becoming an honorary member of the club. The course was formally inaugurated in 1971, and the layout was expanded from nine to eighteen holes in 1973. The Skovbanen identity therefore belongs to a gradual local project rather than a single opening day.
Did You Know? The club's history records that Robert Trent Jones Jr. was appointed as Holstebro's course architect in 2004, while current course information still credits Erik Schnack for Skovbanen. That distinction reflects the difference between the original designer of the forest course and later architectural oversight. In 2021 the Skovbanen was named Denmark's best course by the World Golf Awards, a notable recent chapter in its long development.
