Overview: Hokkaido Golf Club’s Eagle Course spans 18 holes and plays to par 72 in Tomakomai, south of New Chitose Airport, with an official championship total of 6,664 yards. The course’s own description presents it as an American-style layout with broad fairways and water worked into the scenery. That gives the round a spacious, confident look from the tee, but long par fives and water-side decisions reward controlled positioning as much as power. The open Hokkaido landscape and broad views make Eagle a destination course that remains readable hole by hole rather than becoming a purely decorative resort layout.
History: The course opened in 1991 and current course records credit Shunsuke Kato with the design. Eagle is one half of Hokkaido Golf Club’s 36-hole facility, paired with the contrasting Lion Course. The operator describes the two routings as deliberately different: Eagle uses an American-style presentation with water and open space, while Lion uses mounded rough and a Scottish-links character. That pairing has given the club a clear identity in the golf country around Tomakomai and the New Chitose travel corridor.
Did You Know? The official Eagle card lists 6,664 yards from the champion tees and 6,211 from the regular tees, a 453-yard difference between the two published setups. Its 8th is a 597-yard par five, while the 14th places water beside both the fairway and green. Together they show why the course can look generous at first glance while still asking precise questions on the approach.
