Overview: Hokkaido Brooks Country Club occupies a large 1.65-million-square-metre site in Uenae, Tomakomai, where the fairways follow gentle natural rises instead of being forced into a flat grid. The official course description presents 18 holes with an orthodox, hand-shaped character, broad green spaces and enough movement in the ground to make the lie matter. A current course listing gives a 6,445-yard, par-72 setup, while the official site describes the course as a full championship test that can still be played from several levels.
History: The course opened in 1992 and was designed and supervised by Ed Sneed and Taizo Kawata. Its modern tournament record is unusually useful for understanding the venue. Hokkaido Brooks hosted the Hokkaido Open Golf Tournament from 2013 through 2016, the Japan Amateur Golf Championship in 2016, and later senior competition, with the official site also listing the Japan Women's Amateur Golf Championship in 2026. Those events place the course in Tomakomai's established airport-golf corridor rather than treating it as an anonymous resort layout.
Did You Know? Brooks is deliberately described as a course that follows the land. The official page says the 18 holes were laid out through existing natural ups and downs, and the Japanese course page compares the site to the original idea of a golf course without unnecessary visual tricks. That makes the fairway contours themselves part of the architecture: a good drive is not only about distance, but about finding the section of ground that leaves the next shot balanced.
