Overview: De Hoge Kleij is an 18-hole heathland and woodland course situated on Landgoed Den Treek in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug region. The course offers suitable challenges for golfers of all levels and ages. As of 2026, the club ranks 9th in the Dutch top-10 rankings and welcomes green fee players alongside its members.
History: The first plans for the course originated in 1979, when members of Utrechtse Golfclub 'De Pan' founded the Stichting Golf in Leusden to build a course on Landgoed Den Treek-Henschoten. After overcoming various objections, the initial design by English-born Dutch architect Frank Pennink was taken over by Donald Steel following Pennink’s death in 1984. The first sod was turned on 25 February 1985, the course opened for play on 28 June 1986, and the official opening by Prince Claus took place in 1987 after the clubhouse was completed. Between 2009 and 2012, architect Frank Pont oversaw a major renovation and rerouting of all holes, culminating in hole 18 finishing at the clubhouse terrace. The renovated course was officially re-opened in June 2012.
Did You Know? The 2012 renovation, which de-forested thousands of trees, restored the original open heathland vistas, improved playability, and helped preserve a rare ecosystem. The course plays firm and fast thanks to its natural sandy soil.
