Overview: Hidden Creek offers 18 holes with a par of 71 and a listed length of 7,071 yards in the pines of Egg Harbor Township. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw routed the course through soft, undulating dunes, broad playing corridors, trees and sandy ground, drawing on heathland golf outside London while keeping the layout rooted in southern New Jersey. The holes use subtle movement rather than dramatic construction, and the spacious corridors allow different angles of attack without making the course look heavily engineered. Its quiet scale and minimal transitions give the round a strong walking character.
History: The project grew from Roger Hansen’s long interest in classic golf architecture and his early connection with Crenshaw and Coore. Construction began in summer 2000, with the architects working in the field and allowing the site’s existing contours to determine the routing. The course officially opened in June 2002 after a development process that had taken 17 years from Hansen’s first contact with Crenshaw. Dormie Network acquired Hidden Creek in 2019 and has continued the property as a private destination while preserving its original design identity. The course has hosted U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Amateur qualifying events.
Did You Know? Only about 50,000 cubic yards of earth were moved during construction, an unusually restrained figure for a modern course of this scale. The creek that gives Hidden Creek its name is tucked away within the broader 750-acre property rather than used as a constant visual feature.
