Overview: Hendersonville Country Club is a private Donald Ross course in the Blue Ridge foothills. The routing grew from the Laurel Park Estates idea and uses rolling mountain terrain rather than the flat Sandhills. The club's history and the local preservation record are especially useful because development and course completion happened in separate stages.
History: Laurel Park Estates began in the 1920s, but the original real-estate project did not finish the course. Local leaders formed Hendersonville Country Club in the early 1930s, and the first nine opened in 1933 before the second nine followed. The resulting 18-hole course carries both Laurel Park and club history.
Did You Know? The 1933 date refers to the first nine holes, not the complete story of the 18-hole club. The course history explains why Donald Ross references can span the 1920s planning period and the 1933-34 completion period.
