Overview: Hazendal is an 18-hole par-3 course at a wine estate in Stellenbosch’s Bottelary area. It is built around large undulating bent-grass greens, carefully positioned bunkers and the South Easter, making the short game the centre of the experience. The course is less about length than trajectory, landing angles and the ability to control the first bounce on a firm, shaped target.
History: Hazendal’s owners developed the course to broaden the estate’s leisure offer and make a focused short-game venue part of the Stellenbosch golf landscape. Planning was carried out with Golf Data and internal designers, with the surrounding wine property and conserved pockets of indigenous vegetation kept visible from the holes. The course has since become part of a wider estate experience that includes art, food and hospitality.
Did You Know? Hazendal’s par-3 format makes the South Easter an especially visible part of the design. A breeze that would simply change club selection on a full-length course can alter the landing zone, bounce and even the safe side of the green here.
