Overview: TPC Harding Park is a public municipal course located in San Francisco, California. Designed by Willie Watson and Sam Whiting, the parkland course is surrounded by Lake Merced and lined with Monterey cypress trees. The layout features narrow fairways and small greens, requiring players to shape shots and manage winds off the lake to avoid the thick rough. It stands as one of the busiest and most popular public golf destinations in Northern California.
History: Opened in 1925, the course was named after President Warren G. Harding. It fell into disrepair in the late 20th century before undergoing a major restoration in 2002 to prepare it for tournament play. The course has since hosted the 2009 Presidents Cup and the 2020 PGA Championship, won by Collin Morikawa.
Did You Know? The course has a sister 9-hole executive layout on site called the Fleming 9, named after Jack Fleming, who was the former resident golf architect for the city of San Francisco. The Fleming 9 is routed inside the back nine of the main Harding course.
