Overview: Harborside International’s Starboard Course is a public Chicago layout inspired by Scottish, English and Irish seaside courses. Dick Nugent’s design uses open ground, wind, water and bold links-style shaping to create a distinctive municipal golf experience beside the city.
History: Starboard opened in 1996 as the second course at Harborside International. Its design followed the success of the original Port Course while giving the facility a separate routing and a more overt seaside-links vocabulary.
Did You Know? Harborside is a municipal facility, but Starboard was designed to feel like a distant coastal links. The contrast between Chicago’s urban setting and the course’s seaside inspiration is part of its appeal.
